Senator Manchin’s attempt to accelerate energy permitting was removed.
Congress passed stopgap government funding legislation late this week, just before the October 1 deadline. In order to pass the Senate, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York pulled Senator Joe Manchin’s climate provisions due to a lack of support for the measure.
The provisions, authored by Senator Joe Manchin, would have eased energy project permitting for both oil projects and clean energy projects. Clean energy experts have had a mixed response to the removal of the climate bill since the acceleration of energy permitting was seen by some as supporting fossil fuel producers. However, the provisions may also have facilitated the expansion of renewable power as well.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For members of Congress as they consider bills that impact climate and energy.
- For the president and his administration as they pursue renewable energy sources.
